Project Description
This project aimed to conceptualize and execute a comprehensive instructional design and performance technology solution. The project started with the planning phase, engaged in UX mapping, crafted a pedagogy pitch, formed an assessment & evaluation plan, and established a robust project management framework.
On completing the planning phase, the solution was developed in Rise 360, incorporating various multimedia elements like images, videos, and interactive scenarios strategically placed throughout the lessons to maximize learner engagement.

Tools
The following tools and media were used to create this course:
Rise 360
Articulate 360
Vyond
Vivid Learning Systems videos
Planning Phase
User Personas and UX Mapping
The project started by analyzing the learners' requirements and incorporating the development of user personas. Empathy mapping was chosen as the UX mapping method, facilitating a deeper grasp of the learners' needs, emotions, and perspectives. This process significantly enriched the learners' understanding and guided the selection of a pedagogical approach, ultimately shaping the solution.
Pedagogical Approach
The pedagogical approach for this project is rooted in constructivism and scenario-based learning principles.
Constructivism - The course encourages active engagement and knowledge construction through learner-centered activities and problem-solving.
Scenario-Based Learning - Learners are presented with authentic scenarios mirroring real-world troubleshooting and hazardous situations, where they apply their knowledge and skills to identify and resolve issues. These scenarios provide meaningful context for learning, fostering critical thinking, decision-making, and skill development. By presenting realistic scenarios, the course promotes deeper understanding and transferability of knowledge, ensuring they are well-equipped to tackle challenges effectively in their professional practice.
Assessment and Evaluation
This project aimed to incorporate at least two assessment strategies within each lesson, aligning with best practices of sprinkling assessments throughout the lesson instead of one extensive evaluation at the end.
These assessments were chosen to encompass a range of formats, including multiple-choice questions, scenario simulations, and matching activities. The evaluation at the end of the course is a comprehensive scenario-based simulation.
Development
The course was created using Rise 360 as the primary development tool. Certain elements were crafted in Articulate 360, incorporating interactive hotspots to enable learners to identify safety hazards within the workplace. Additionally, two videos were produced using Vyond: one at the beginning, a promotional introduction to the course, and another explaining the organization's mission. Leveraging Vyond's AI feature facilitated the creation process, enhancing efficiency and streamlining video production.
Integration of AI
This solution explored the integration of AI within the module, serving as an innovative means to assess learners' progress. While currently serving as a placeholder, this aspect highlights my commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements and plan to incorporate AI technologies once identified.
Reflection
The most significant takeaway from this project is the importance of accurately estimating development time. Undertaking a project that encompasses all facets learned throughout the program demands meticulous planning and effort. I realized the necessity of scaling down my project's scope as my initial ambitions exceeded the constraints of a seven-week course. This experience emphasized the critical role of realistic project planning and effective time management in achieving successful outcomes.
Continued Learning
I am eager to dive deeper into developing complex scenarios using Rise 360, as I found conceptualizing and creating scenarios for our technician teams rewarding. To enhance my proficiency in utilizing interactivity effectively, I plan to invest time in watching tutorials or enrolling in courses dedicated to this aspect of course development.
I am also interested in exploring the potential of generative AI in our workplace. I have already begun acquainting myself with plug-ins that enable its integration within Storyline through webinars and meeting with vendors to learn more about the power of AI in learning and development. Moving forward, I am committed to staying abreast of this emerging trend by actively participating in webinars, conducting research, and engaging with professionals already leveraging this technology in their work.
